Single mixers - postmodernist dating dystopia

If you've been in the city and single AF, algorithm realizes "ah, let's sell this poor soul a ticket to a mixer" and suck out tiniest of hope left in him. There are countless, each one selling the same urban dream, just the tier differs on how much they want to exploit your loneliness.

The lowest tier is ofcourse the infamous smallworld, the lessor known sibling the-hype. Started as an offshoot concept coming off from the era of colive. Remember how Colive was the rave back in the day, a common area a guy with a guitar and eventually you are in love triage and four angle with your neighbours. The concept got industrialized, the colive spaces became small world where in woman are the volunteers themselves in cahoot with the organizer. Think even the organizer do not care, one organizer himself was literally bolstering me in his own word "ki dabba bc, pell inko dikha apna dilli ka jalwa". How we are witnessing variations in the types of events, sip and shizz, or worse -> jamming.

Then we get into some mid tier scene, which is popularised by phrase "dinner with stranger/psycho" - dinner, breakfast, lunch, coffee, whatever you call it. It's just a trauma dumping session at best, with an appetizer to digest what you'll hear. You see folks from all the different background and yet same common opinion. There is one moderator who would do some ice breaker and then you start with how much trauma you had to endure. The ratio never favours you here as well, on one occasion only the moderator was an old woman, rest of us young boys and uncles were just dicking ourselves out. Even the moderator left us half way through it. And then yet again, a playboy still manages to pick one up if he is so motivated. Hightables, m.e.t, timeleft, plannit, blr evnet hub, you name it I've been there.

Then comes the high tier scene, the big leagues, the worst of it all, the intentional mixer events, letssocialize, offlyne by happy hours, thewhitebox, and so on so forth. Some even charge 8-10k which ofcourse includes couple of cocktails, cuz for sure you gonna need that. You would think atleast here since people can pay up for event like this crowd will be serious and mature and good. You are sorely mistaken my friend. You are there for window shopping nothing more. You are single AF, you know you ain't gonna get nothing, you show up there just to see how bad your options are. And man you ain't disappointed, it is BAD. Most would the divorcees, few who looks decent have obvious red flags and one or two pretty who walks in by accident just gets asked out by every guy in the event, which she plays if off as she is just looking for friends, and friends does she makes a ton of them. Having thus attended many of these I have had one hookups but nothing goes beyond that. And on one occasion I thought I almost got one decent girl, at the last moment the girl decided to go with another guy. And then later she messaged me she made a mistake. If you wanna know why you are single, you can pay up for these event and learn it for yourself. Maybe one time won't do you in, you gotta be at it multiple times to finally break it on to you. In bukowski word "don't try"

The pattern is all too similar though, there are 3 camps -

  • The wide-eyed newbies, fresh to the city, hopeful

  • The veterans who have been here so long that all their real friends got married, bought dogs, and left them behind.

  • The post-divorce era folks returning for their second spring

You see who is who and you realize none of it is ever gonna work. But after going to so many event you start running into same folks over and over again and then against your own wishes you make friends with them, single serving. Congratulation while you didn't find a wife, you found but you did find four other miserable folks to share the ride straight down the road to vegas.
